چکیده

A model for draping of woven fabric is described which is intermediate to the two main approaches currently used, kinematic modelling and comprehensive finite element modelling. The approach used is a simple unit-cell finite element model, with the fabric modelled by a network of simple truss elements, connected across the ‘diagonals’ by soft elements to mimic the shear stiffness of the material. Bias extension tests on dry fabric are used both to calibrate and validate the model. The model is then used to simulate draping of an ellipsoid. The capability of the model is illustrated by construction of a simple process optimisation map for this geometry. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Stochastic Geometric Properties Of Woven Textiles

This paper addresses geometric variability of woven textiles used in composites manufacturing. Variability in tow directions and unit cell size is quantified by applying an image analysis procedure to two representative materials; a pre-impregnated carbon/epoxy satin weave textile and a commingled glass/polypropylene fabric, and the spatial autocorrelation of stochastic variables is characteriz...

Meso-scale Modeling of Tension Analysis of Pure and Intra-ply Hybrid Woven Composites Using Finite Element Method

One of the key issues associated with using of composites in various applications is their tensile behavior. The tensile behavior of a composite material is strongly influenced by the properties of its constituents and their distribution. This paper focuses on gaining some insights into the tensile process of pure and hybrid woven composite reinforced with brittle and ductile yarns. For this pu...

Volume-Filling Effects on Sloshing Frequency in Simplified and Explicit Dynamic Finite Element Models of Tank Wagons During Braking and Turning

Numerical analysis of fluid sloshing in tank wagons is amongst essential research ideas that are focused by railway engineers. The free surface of fluid becomes unstable and turns into a dynamic complex non-linear problem for fluid-structure interaction (FSI). In this paper, initially, the dynamic response of the tank, including lateral force analysis and pressure distribution during braking, i...

Pii: S1359-835x(00)00046-4

This paper covers numerical investigations of the draping of woven fabrics into a “hat” shape, combining a hemispherical cup with a wide flat rim. A mechanical approach is adopted using finite element analysis (FEA) methodology. In this, the fabric is considered as a solid sheet with mechanical properties and friction properties. In this study, a linear elastic anisotropic material model descri...

Simulate the Dynamic Draping Behavior of Woven and Knitted Fabrics

In this article a practical mass-spring system was developed to simulate the draping of woven and knitted fabrics. The material properties important to fabric drape, including aerial density, tensile, shear, and bending properties were measured using the Kawabata Evaluation System and the experimental data were incorporated into the mass-spring model to simulate the dynamic draping behavior of ...
